The Foundation makes grants in support of original research and education in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and economic performance.

The San Diego Workforce Partnership funds job training programs that enable eligible adults to develop the skills and knowledge needed for emerging career opportunities within such fields as green jobs, healthcare, and clean technology. A network of career centers and community partners, funded by the San Diego Workforce Partnership, assists eligible jobseekers interested in subsidized job training.

Educating and Developing Workers for the Green Economy (EDGE Initiative)
The San Diego region was awarded a $4 million grant to implement new workforce training programs for careers in the emerging biofuels industry through the California Labor and Workforce Development Agency's "Green Innovation Challenge." The EDGE Initiative has designed a career-directed approach to help workers gain both employment and the skills and training necessary to move up the career ladder in an industry that will continue to flourish as governments and consumers worldwide seek cleaner alternatives to fossil fuels.

Biotechnology Readiness, Immersion, Certification and Degrees for Gainful Employment (BRIDGE)
The BIOCOM Institute and partners were awarded $4.95 million from the Department of Labor to link training and higher education with employment opportunities that address the regional and state-wide workforce needs of the life science industry. This program will provide education, training, and placement services to more than 1,000 veterans, incumbent workers and dislocated and unemployed workers within the San Diego region.
